With his wife and co-author Lene Arnett Jensen, Dr. Arnett is the author of four textbooks in developmental psychology covering the entire lifespan. All four texts take a cultural approach to development, meaning that they encourage students to recognize that people’s experience of life varies widely around the world depending on where they live. The texts include examples from diverse cultures within the United States as well as in countries worldwide. Their textbook Adolescence and Emerging Adulthood: A Cultural Approach, is the best-selling textbook in the world in courses on adolescent development. Their lifespan textbook Human Development: A Cultural Approach won the 2021 Textbook Excellence Award from the Textbook and Academic Authors Association.
